Infinity Power to develop 4 GW of clean energy in Cameroon

Infinity Power has signed a MoU with the Cameroon West Regional Council to develop up to 4 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2035. Furthermore, the projects will be developed in different phases and will include a mix of solar, wind, hydro, biomass and battery storage solutions. Reportedly, the MoU was inked by the Deputy CEO of Infinity Power and the President of the Cameroon West Regional Council.

Masdar and Emirates Steel Arkan to build green steel project in MENA

Masdar has collaborated with Emirates Steel Arkan, an Abu Dhabi-based steel and building materials manufacturer, to create an innovative green steel project. The success of this project has far-reaching implications that will decarbonize the UAE’s challenging steel sector. The pilot initiative is the region’s first of its sort in the Middle East and North Africa. The project is presently in the installation stage and is situated in the Emirates Steel Arkan production facilities in the Industrial City of Abu Dhabi.

Masdar and Jinko finalised for 1.5 GW of Saudi solar projects

Masdar and Jinko Power have been finalised for the construction of two solar projects in Saudi Arabia with a total capacity of 1.5 GW. Reportedly, the Saudi Power Procurement Company chose the bidders for round 4 solar projects. The larger of the two plans is the 1.1 GW Al Henakiyah solar project, which will be built in western Saudi Arabia’s Medina Province.

Nordex receives Turkish order to supply 189 MW turbines

Nordex, a German wind turbine manufacturer, has received an order to supply 189 MW turbines for three wind projects from Rönesans Enerji. A ten-year period service agreement is entailed in the contract. The N163/6.X turbines from Nordex will be used for the projects, which were chosen in the YEKA RES-3 tender. On the behalf  of Rönesans Enerji, Heitkamp Industrial Solutions is the engineering, procurement, and construction contractor.

Husk Power launches Sunshot Initiative in Nigeria

Winch Energy procures $16 million to set up mini-grids in Uganda and Sierra Leone

Winch Energy, an off-grid energy developer and technology integrator, has adopted a dedicated mechanism for financing its mini green grid projects in Africa. Through this platform, $16 million has already been mobilised towards setting up 49 mini-grids in Uganda and Sierra Leone. The mini grids will be built with Winch Energy’s own proprietary technology, the Remote Power Unit, and will be operational within the next 12 months.

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the Southern African Development Community’s Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (SACREEE) have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on increasing the deployment renewable energy projects with a special focus on decentralised technologies across countries in Southern Africa. The two parties will also combine to catalyse policy development, capacity building programmes and regional events to attract investments in the area.

EIB provides EUR 38.5 million to Burkina Faso for solar power deployment and flood protection

The European Investment Bank (EIB) has announced EUR 38.5 million of new financial and technical support to Burkina Faso for promoting solar power development. The funding will also be used to protect its capital city Ouagadougou from future flooding. Through this financing, EIB aims to improve energy access in the country and address the risks caused by extreme weather.
