Kenya floats tender to develop upto 10 MW of captive solar projects

The Kenya Power and Lighting Company have issued an expression of interest from companies to finance, develop, and operate captive solar projects. These solar projects can range between 500kW and 10MW on a lease basis for its commercial and industrial (C&I) consumers. Shortlisted bidders will be issued a detailed Request of Proposal by Kenya Power, which would be selected on the basis of their technical and financial capabilities.Selected bidders also have to operate the project for 20 years. Masdar City plans to launch pilot green hydrogen project

Masdar City has announced that it is developing a pilot green hydrogen project in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy, Etihad Airways, Khalifa University of Science and Technology, Siemens Energy, Marubeni, and the Lufthansa Group. The eloctrolyser used in the project will be solar-powered and will be constructed in Masdar, Abu Dhabi. The project will aim at producing green hydrogen and sustainable fuels for road transport, aviation, and shipping.

Clir Renewables to enhance performance of Africa’s largest wind farm

Clir Renewables has been selected to enhance the performance of Kenya’s Lake Turkana Wind Farm. The company will analyse data from each of the wind farm’s 365 turbines using parameters of available resource, geospatial features, and nearby turbines. Further, machine learning data analytics will be used to pick out instances of underperformance and their underlying causes.

Enel and Qatar Investment Authority partner for renewable energy development in Sub-Saharan Africa

Enel Green Power (EGP) signed an agreement to form a joint venture with a subsidiary of Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) aimed at financing, building and operating renewable projects in Sub-Saharan Africa. As part of this agreement QIA will also acquire 50 per cent of EGP’s stake in approximately 800 MW of projects in South Africa and Zambia under the first phase.

Daystar raises $38 million to expand footprint in West Africa

Nigeran off-grid solar company, Daystar Power has closed a $38-million Series B financing round led by Denmark’s Investment Fund for Developing Countries. In addition to the Danish Impact Investor, the deal was supported by French impact infrastructure fund STOA, development finance institution Proparco and Morgan Stanley Investment Management. Daystar Power has now raised a total $48 million includind funds raised in the previous round.
