Ciel & Terre Solar Private Limited has developed 120 MWp floating solar photovoltaic power project in collaboration with L&T and SJVN Green Energy Limited. The project has been set up at Omkareshwar in Madhya Pradesh, India. It will supply power to the Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Limited.
Situated on the freshwater reservoir of Omkareshwar dam, the project spans 210 acres, about 20 per cent of the total 1,060-acre water surface. It comprises 14 floating islands of 8.5 MWp capacity each, and uses 407,699 Hydrelio floats configured with the aiR OPTIM 1400-3 model in a three-row setup. Additionally, the project is designed to enhance energy efficiency by leveraging the cooling effects of water, and is expected to offset over 113,406 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
Ciel & Terre has more than ten commissioned projects in India with a cumulative capacity of 425+ MWp. Globally, the company has commissioned 325+ projects in more than 30 countries with the capacity of 3.2 GWp installed and under various stages.
REGlobal’s Views: Floating solar projects are gaining traction in many Indian states considering the challenges associated with land acquisition approvals. Floating solar projects also help realise synergies especially when constructed on reservoirs of existing thermal and hydropower projects. India has witnessed many auctions in this space in the recent months with increasing maturing and affordability of technology.
