Cleantech Solar has commissioned 10 MWp of floating solar photovoltaic (PV) systems for Cargill in Thailand. These PV systems are a part of approximately 30 solar PV projects under various stages of operations, construction and development for Cargill. These projects are located at Cargill’s fully integrated poultry processing units in Korat and Sarabur.
Furthermore, these floating solar systems are expected to generate around 285 GWh of clean energy over their lifetime. This will help reduce approximately 132 kilotonnes of carbon emissions. Additionally, Cleantech Solar is implementing various other projects across Southeast Asia and India for Cargill.
Earlier in December 2024, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Gulf Renewable Energy Company Limited finalised an $820 million loan to provide construction financing for 12 renewable energy projects in Thailand. The portfolio includes eight ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) plants with a contracted capacity of 393 MW and four solar PV plants with battery energy storage systems totaling 256 MW of contracted capacity and 396 MWh of energy storage.
REGlobal’s Views: Land constraints and ample water bodies have made Southeast Asia a top destination for floating solar development. The attractive cost economics of floating solar in these countries have increased their demand not just in the utility-scale space but also in the C&I space. Cleantech Solar has vast experience in the Southeast Asian floating solar market having executed such projects for companies like Chip Mong Insee Cement Corporation.
