CS Energy, an Australian electricity company, has signed a MoU with EDF Renewables for the construction of the 230 MW Banana Range Wind Farm in Central Queensland. The Banana Range Wind Farm, which will be in the Biloela region, will be able to generate enough clean energy to power 15,000 homes. During the construction phase, the project is planned to provide 150 jobs. Construction on the site is set to begin in 2024, with the project slated to be completed in 2026.
The wind farm, according to Queensland Minister for Energy, Renewables and Hydrogen Mick de Brenni, adds to the state’s renewable energy generation pipeline and diversifies the portfolio of publicly owned energy companies. Queensland’s aim of generating 50 per cent of its energy from renewable sources would be helped by the Banana Range Wind Farm.
CS Energy is a commercial and industrial energy supplier that invests in solar and wind farms, renewable hydrogen, and batteries, among other assets. The Queensland government owns the company.
In January 2022, EDF Renewables formed a joint venture with DP Energy, an international renewable project developer, to produce up to 1 GW of floating offshore wind power in the Celtic Sea. The project would almost certainly cross English and Welsh waterways. Gwynt Glas, a floating offshore wind farm, would supply enough energy to power 927,400 homes. This is expected to contribute significantly to the Crown Estate’s 4 GW capacity plans in the Celtic Sea.
