Enel Green Power España (EGPE), a subsidiary of Endesa, has connected its 180 MW Tico Wind farm in Spain to the country’s energy grid. The Tico Wind project, which is in Villar de los Navarros, Zaragoza, entails a $193 million investment. It can generate 471 GWh of green electricity per year and displace 192,200 tonnes of carbon emissions a year.

In May 2021, EGPE began construction on the site. Under a ten-year pan-European Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA) signed in 2020, EGPE has agreed to supply Novartis with 78.5MW of power generated by Tico Wind. As a result of the project, Novartis will be able to offset 96,000 tonnes of carbon emissions each year. As per the company’s statement, around 330 local workers were hired during the construction phase of Tico Wind, with approximately 30 per cent of the workers being employed from Villar de los Navarros and the surrounding areas.

In April 2022, Enel Generación Chile signed a power purchase agreement with Atlas Renewable Energy to develop the latter’s first wind energy project. The three wind farms, which have a total capacity of 417 MW, can create 1.3 TWh of renewable energy annually and contribute to the country’s goal of accelerating its clean energy transition. The annual 1.3 TWh capacity would be enough to power 628,512 households while displacing 671,488 t of carbon emissions.
