Edify Energy has obtained a development approval to build and operate a green hydrogen production plant with a capacity up to 1 GW in Queensland, Australia. The company will also build a behind-the-meter solar photovoltaic and battery storage facility at the Lansdown Eco-Industrial Precinct in Townsville, Queensland. The green hydrogen facility will be developed from a pilot scale of 10 MW and expanded further in the future as per market demand.
The Lansdown Eco-Industrial Precinct promotes the use of natural mineral resources for advanced manufacturing and production. It is supplied with renewable energy from the co-located Majors Creek Solar Power Station. The green hydrogen plant is expected to receive energy from renewable sources. This is in line with Australia’s goal of decarbonising advanced manufacturing in the country.
The Lansdown precinct has a well-established rail and road network which connects Lansdown to the Port of Townsville. This will facilitate greater exports to global markets. The project is also expected to facilitate the creation of jobs, thereby, boosting long-term post-Covid recovery policies in Australia.
As of now, Edify Energy has generated over 795 MW of power using renewable energy and energy storage. The company has invested over $1.5 billion in clean energy generation and infrastructure. It provides electricity to over 280,000 homes in Australia.
