The ICCT’s market spotlight “Zero-Emission Bus And Truck Market In Brazil (2025)” summarises that Zero-emission heavy-duty vehicle (HDV) sales in Brazil reached 1,265 units in 2025, a 48% increase compared with 2024 and the highest level since data began to be collected. Growth, however, was uneven across segments. City buses and coaches have been the primary drivers of electrification, supported by federal fleet-renewal initiatives such as the Novo PAC Seleções, dedicated financing instruments from the Brazilian Development Bank, and local transport decarbonization policies.
As a result, the zero-emission market share in this segment more than doubled to 3.5%. Zero-emission trucks accounted for just 0.4% of total truck sales. Within this category, light and medium trucks (3.5-15 tonnes)-which are mainly used in urban logistics and are less dependent on public charging infrastructure-achieved a 1.7% market share. By contrast, although heavy trucks (15+ tonnes) represented the largest share of HDV sales, with more than 85,000 units sold, their zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) penetration remained limited at 0.06%, reflecting technological, cost, and charging infrastructure challenges for long-haul operations.
