Enbridge Inc. and Six Nations Energy Development LP, a new consortium comprising Cowessess First Nation, George Gordon First Nation, Kahkewistahaw First Nation, Métis Nation-Saskatchewan, Pasqua First Nation, and White Bear First Nations, have revealed plans to develop Seven Stars Energy wind project in southeast of Weyburn, Saskatchewan.
Furthermore, the project is anticipated to generate 200 MW of clean energy. An indirect subsidiary wholly owned by Enbridge will develop, construct and operate the project. The financial participation of the partners will be partially supported by loan guarantees of up to $100 million from the Saskatchewan Indigenous Investment Finance Corporation. The First Nation and Métis partners will have the opportunity to buy at least 30 per cent equity stake in the project.
The project is expected to be operational by 2027, contingent upon finalising commercial agreements, securing necessary environmental and regulatory approvals, and meeting investment criteria. Additionally, Enbridge is in the process of securing a long-term power purchase agreement with SaskPower to facilitate the final investment decisions expected in 2025.
