The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group has approved a €100 million loan to Gotion Power Morocco for the development of an integrated cathode-to-cell lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery factory. The facility will be located in the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra Free Trade Zone. Phase 1 of the project will deliver 10 GWh of battery cell and pack production capacity, with plans to expand to 100 GWh. AfDB also plans to mobilise up to €141 million in additional financing from financial partners for the project.
In July 2026, the AfDB approved a financing package of up to $110 million for the Aysha wind project in Ethiopia. The financing comprises $80 million from the ADB window, $20 million from the Clean Technology Fund, and $10 million from the Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa. An additional $381.1 million in debt will be provided from other development finance institutions for the project.
In July 2026, the AfDB approved a financing package for the first phase of the 500 MW Dandara solar project with a 100 MWh BESS. The project is located in Qena Governorate, Egypt. The $66 million financing comprises $46 million from the Bank’s ordinary resources and $20 million from the Climate Investment Funds’ Clean Technology Fund, with additional debt expected from development finance institutions.
