Heliogen, a solar power technology company based in the US, has signed a project agreement with Woodside Energy, an Australian energy company owned by Woodside Petroleum, to test a concentrated solar energy project in the United States.  Heliogen is planning to build a concentrated solar energy facility with artificial intelligence (AI) at a site in Mojave, California. By 2030, Woodside plans to invest $5 billion in new energy goods and lower-carbon services.

To assist in this mission, the corporation has opted to purchase a stake in Heliogen. Heliogen obtained a limited notice to proceed from Woodside to begin sourcing critical equipment for the commercial size, single-module 5 MWe facility, which led to the project agreement. Heliogen will be in charge of the facility’s engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) work under the conditions of the newest deal.

Heliogen and Woodside have also agreed to expand the scope of the $39 million grant provided to Heliogen by the US Department of Energy (DOE) for the development of renewable energy technology in California. Furthermore, the two companies have agreed to work jointly to sell Heliogen’s technology in Australia.

REGlobal’s Views: Mojave in California has been the site for other concentrated solar projects in the US as well including the 250 MW Mojave Solar Project. The desert receives very high solar irradiation making it a suitable location for solar installations.
