Hero Future Energies (HFE), a leading developer of solar, wind, and hybrid projects, and Ohmium International have announced a strategic collaboration to develop and build 1,000 MW of green hydrogen production facilities in India, the UK, and Europe. Ohmium will be responsible for the hydrogen production facilities’ design, construction, operation, and maintenance. HFE will be the build, operate, and own partner and will generate green energy to power the manufacturing facilities and assume overall asset ownership. This giga-scale collaboration is expected to provide a significant boost to the development of a robust green hydrogen ecosystem.

HFE was established in 2012 as a deliberate strategic decision by the Group to enter the high growth market of power generation from clean and renewable sources of energy. Its current portfolio includes 1.7 GW of commissioned wind and solar power projects with an additional 1.5 GW under construction or planned. The company has a 2022 growth target of 3.5 GW of installed and operating capacity.

Ohmium International is headquartered in the US with research and development centers in Silicon Valley (the US) and Bengaluru (India), and manufacturing center in India. In November 2021, Ohmium International sent its first unit of electrolyzer from India to the US through its Indian subsidiary. Ohmium produced the electrolyzer at its Bengaluru plant, which is India’s first green hydrogen electrolyzer gigafactory.

REGlobal’s Views: This collaboration with Ohmium will help HFE to expand its base in a fast growing segment like green hydrogen in not just India but large European markets as well.
