Hynfra has inked a framework agreement with the Government of Mauritania for the development of a green ammonia project in Nouakchott. The project is planned to produce 100,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually starting in 2030. The total capital expenditure for the project is expected to be $1.5 billion.

The project will be located in the southern zone of the Somelec wind farm, with exports planned through Port de l’Amitié, the country’s largest port. It will include photovoltaic and wind farms, electrolyser units, a green ammonia production plant, and supporting infrastructure like water desalination, energy storage, and logistics for exports.

In February 2025, GreenGo Energy inked an agreement for the development of a large-scale green hydrogen project in Mauritania. According to the agreement, GreenGo Energy will have access to more than 100,000 hectares of land near Nouakchott, Mauritania for the development of the Megaton Moon Green Hydrogen Project. With this agreement, GreenGo Energy has entered into the development phase of the project.
