LS Energy Solutions has commenced commercial operations for the Big Rock energy storage system (ESS) project in Imperial County, California. The project has a capacity of 200 MW/400 MWh and was developed in partnership with Gore Street Energy Storage Fund (GSF). The project will be providing resource adequacy (RA) and ancillary services to the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) grid.

The project consists of 137 LS-ES AiON-ESS containers, each providing two-hour storage. At present, it is operated at 100 MW deliverability to provide 400 MWh of energy to CAISO, fulfilling the four-hour discharge requirement under a 12-year RA contract. Alongside the supply of containers, LS Energy Solutions is responsible for operational services such as preventive and capacity maintenance, extended warranty, and remote system monitoring throughout the project’s life.

Earlier in June 2025, Arevon Energy commenced commercial operations at its Peregrine energy storage project. It is a 200 MW/400 MWh battery storage project in San Diego, California. This $300 million project was developed and is fully owned and operated by Arevon.
