L&T Energy GreenTech Limited (LTEGL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro (L&T), has entered into a long-term partnership with ITOCHU Corporation. Under this agreement, LTEGL will supply 300,000 tonnes per annum (TPA) of green ammonia to ITOCHU. The supply will be on a captive, long-term take-or-pay basis from LTEGL’s proposed production facility in Gujarat, India.
ITOCHU will use the green ammonia supplied from Kandla for its growing green bunkering operations. This forms part of its broader strategy to develop a global green ammonia ecosystem across key maritime trade routes. Furthermore, this agreement builds on the joint development agreement inked between the two companies in July 2025.
Earlier in May 2025, LTEGL secured the Indian Oil Corporation Limited’s tender to establish a green hydrogen production facility with a capacity of 10 KTPA at the Panipat refinery petrochemical complex in Haryana, India. Further, in September 2025, ACWA Power signed a MoU with L&T’s renewables division for the renewables and grid scope of the Yanbu green ammonia project in Saudi Arabia.
REGlobal’s Views: India is expected to emerge as an important export hub for green hydrogen and its derivatives especially for the industries in Europe, Japan, Singapore and South Korea. The country has been successful in conducting consecutive auctions for green ammonia which led to the discovery of record low tariffs on the global stage indicating India’s growing price competitiveness in the green ammonia space globally.
