The Vilnius City Municipality has awarded an EPC contract worth approximately €10 million to MT Group for a green hydrogen production facility. Around 70 per cent of the project cost will be financed through European Union structural funds, while the remaining expenditure will be met by the municipal authorities.

The plant is expected to become operational in the first half of 2026. It will use renewable electricity and water to produce up to 3.45 million cubic metres of green hydrogen each year, which is equivalent to roughly 2,000 MWh of heat energy.

Furthermore, the project forms an integral part of Vilnius’ strategy to build a sustainable urban transport network. The green hydrogen generated at the facility will be used to fuel 16 public transport buses, replacing their diesel counterparts and helping the city reduce carbon emissions by an estimated 1,414 tonnes annually.
