Ocean Breeze Energy, owner and operator of the 400 MW BARD Offshore 1 wind farm, and RWE Supply & Trading have signed a power purchase agreement (PPA). Beginning in April 2023, RWE Supply & Trading will begin marketing the renewable energy produced by the facility through a direct marketing scheme.

The contract runs until the end of this decade. The supply will progressively shift to a fixed pricing regime starting in 2026. The BARD Offshore 1 wind farm, which has 80 wind turbines and situated 100 km north of the island of Borkum in the German North Sea, was put into service in 2013. It will provide enough renewable energy to supply 463,000 households. The project will also be used to produce green hydrogen by means of electrolyser projects, currently under development by RWE. The two firms also intend to use the wind farm to offer “flexibility in the form of balancing energy” to stabilise the power grid.

In January 2023, RWE and PPC Renewables collaborated to build more than 200 MW of solar capacity in Greece, speeding the country’s energy transition. RWE and PPC made the final investment decision on five solar photovoltaic (PV) projects through their joint venture company Meton Energy. The five solar PV projects, totaling 210 MWp (175 MWac), would be built in the Western Macedonia region of northern Greece.
