Green Investment Group (GIG) has granted Offshore Design Engineering (ODE) a contract as owner’s engineer and package manager for offshore wind projects in South Korea that it is developing and investing in. The deal will see ODE’s Korea office, which will open in January 2021, carry out engineering projects totaling more than 500 MW in the nation. ODE will handle a variety of packages throughout the contract, including foundations, cables, electrical interface, and onshore engineering, and will assist GIG through the concept, front end engineering design, and detailed design engineering stages.

GIG, a Macquarie-owned company, deployed the first floating LiDAR at a location offshore Ulsan in 2019, kicking off a 1.4 GW offshore wind project that will be completed in three phases. Last year, the company announced a series of agreements with TotalEnergies to co-develop a 2.3 GW portfolio of floating offshore wind projects in the nation. The portfolio includes five projects: three in Ulsan totaling 1.5 GW and two in South Jeolla Province totaling 800 MW.

ODE will use its worldwide knowledge through its Asia Pacific engineering team, relying on experience from assisting with the development of offshore wind farms in the United Kingdom, Europe, Japan, Vietnam, and Taiwan. The Ulsan project’s first 500 MW phase is scheduled to begin construction by the end of 2023.
