Qualitas Energy has signed an agreement to acquire Cero Generation’s European platform from Macquarie Group. Cero Generation, established by Macquarie in 2021, is an independent power producer focused on solar photovoltaic and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects. Cero Generation will continue operating under its existing brand as an independent Qualitas Energy portfolio company.
The agreement covers a 5.8 GW portfolio across the UK, Italy and Spain, including more than 2 GW of operational, under-construction or ready-to-build assets, along with a 3.8 GW development pipeline. The acquisition will be made through Qualitas Energy Fund VI (QE VI), with completion expected in the coming months, subject to customary conditions.
In July 2026, Qualitas Energy secured approximately €172 million in non-recourse financing for a greenfield solar portfolio in Italy. The portfolio has a combined installed capacity of 158 MWp and comprises 15 solar projects across Italy. The projects are supported by a diversified revenue mix, including FER X, FER X NZIA, power purchase agreements, and other support schemes. The project financing was arranged by CaixaBank, La Banque Postale, and DekaBank.
In June 2026, Qualitas Energy signed an agreement with ACL Energy to finance the construction of a 211 MW BESS portfolio in Italy. The portfolio consists of two BESS projects located in Lombardy and Apulia, featuring 4-hour and 8-hour storage systems. Both projects have secured long-term revenue streams through 15-year contracts awarded under Italy’s Capacity Market and MACSE storage auctions.
