Sturdee Energy has acquired the Masaiti wind project in the Copperbelt region of Zambia. The project has an installed capacity of 200 MW. The project is in its late development stage and will connect to the national grid through a nearby 330 kV ZESCO transmission line. Sturdee Energy is acquiring the project development from Upepo Holdings LLC through its local subsidiary, Upepo Energy Zambia.
Furthermore, Sturdee Energy will advance the project through its final development stages to financial close and subsequently bring it to market. The power will be sold through a combination of ZESCO offtake, South African Power Pool markets, traders and bilateral contracts. The company also plans to integrate solar photovoltaic and battery energy storage systems to provide consistent round-the-clock clean power supply under a single power purchase agreement.
In November 2025, Sturdee Energy achieved financial close for the 91.2 MW Bela Bela solar park in Limpopo, South Africa. The project, valued at R2 billion, will supply renewable power to a South African gold mining company under a five-year power purchase agreement and will connect to the Eskom grid’s Warmbad substation. The project will use JA Solar modules, GameChange single-axis trackers and Sungrow inverters. Cox Energy South Africa will undertake the engineering, procurement and construction works for the project.
