Renewable Power Capital (RPC), a pan-European renewables developer located in the UK, and Altea Green Power have partnered to build 1 GW of battery energy storage in Italy. With this partnership, RPC’s European storage pipeline—which currently has more than 5.5 GW—additionally gains a new jurisdiction.

The partnership, which includes local municipalities and stakeholders, is expected to be ready to build between 2025 and 2027. The partnership has the potential to expand beyond the first 1 GW or to include new technologies. The agreement strengthens RPC’s policy of encouraging decarbonisation throughout Europe. Recently, RPC has invested in ready-to-build BESS projects with capacities of 50 MW and 57 MW in Finland and the UK, respectively.

In December 2023, RPC and Elmya Energy formed a joint venture (JV) to develop 4 GW of BESS and co-located solar PV assets in the UK. As part of the deal, Elmya Energy has contributed an existing pipeline of over 2.5 GW to the JV. This includes 1.5 GW of transmission-connected projects and 200 MW of distribution-connected projects at a late stage of development, plus 800 MW of earlier stage projects.
