Sembcorp Industries, through its subsidiary Sembcorp Solar Singapore, has been selected by PUB, Singapore’s National Water Agency, to develop an 86 MWp floating solar photovoltaic project on Pandan Reservoir. This is reportedly the company’s third floating solar project in Singapore.

In March 2025,  Sembcorp Solar Singapore Pte Ltd inked a 25-year renewable energy purchase agreement with Malkoha, a subsidiary of Meta Platforms, to build, own, and operate a 150 MWp floating solar project in Singapore. The project will support Meta’s regional operations including its data centers. Construction for the project is expected to begin in the first half of 2027. Prior to that, in 2021, Sembcorp completed a 60 MWp inland floating solar farm at Tengeh Reservoir.

Sembcorp Industries is a renewable energy company headquartered in Singapore. The company has more than 1 GWp of solar capacity and more than 300 MWh of energy storage capacity in Singapore. Globally, Sembcorp has a renewable energy portfolio of around 18.9 GW, spread across 11 countries.

REGlobal’s Views: Floating solar projects are essential for countries like Singapore that do not have large tracts of land for solar development. Such large inland floating solar projects help preserve land for agriculture, housing and other important activities and also prevent evaporation from reservoirs. Southeast Asian countries, particularly, are witnessing a significant rise in floating solar activity owing to ample water bodies and land scarcity.
