Norwegian renewable energy generator, Statkraft and Ocean Sun are ready to start the construction of the planned 2 MWp floating solar pilot project in Albania. The pilot floating solar project will receive an estimated total investment of EURO 2 million and will be placed at the Banja reservoir, where Statkraft is operating its 72 MW hydropower plant.

“Now that all regulatory approvals are in place, we have issued a notice to proceed to Ocean Sun for implementing the first phase of the project. We look forward to start construction by the end of June”, said Tom Kristian Larsen, Head Advisor IP Strategy and Asset Management, Statkraft.

In the first phase, Ocean Sun will deliver a 0.5 MWp DC floating solar plant which is expected to be commissioned by the end of 2020.

Post the successful implementation and performance of the first floating solar plant subject to the specified requirements, Statkraft will proceed with the second phase of the project.

The second phase of the project will add additional three floating solar plants of capacity 0.5 MWp each by 2021. With this, the total floating solar capacity on the Banja reservoir will reach 2 MWp.
