Spain will auction 500 MW renewable energy capacity in April 2022

Spain’s Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) has announced that it will hold its next renewable energy auction, with a capacity of 500 MW in April 2022. Of this, 200 MW is allocated to concentrated solar power (CSP) with six hours of battery storage capacity, 140 MW to distributed solar photovoltaic (PV) projects, 140 MW for biomass projects, and 20 MW for other technologies.

Ecuador floats a tender for 500 MW of renewable energy projects

The Ministry of Energy and Non-Renewable Natural Resources of Ecuador has published a request for proposal for three public selection processes for financing, construction, operation, and maintenance of two power generation projects with an installed capacity of 900 MW and a transmission project. Renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, hydropower, and biomass account for 500 MW of the 900 MW power-producing capacity.

India’s GAIL plans to build country’s largest green hydrogen plant

Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL), an Indian state-owned company, will construct India’s largest green hydrogen-making facility to bolster its natural gas operations with carbon-free fuel. It has issued a global tender for the procurement of an electrolyser. The plant will take 12-14 months to establish. The company has chosen 2-3 locations for the unit, one of which is in Vijaipur, Madhya Pradesh.

Bangladesh floats an EPC tender for a 60 MW solar plant

The Bangladesh-China Renewable Energy Company Limited (BCRECL) has floated an EPC tender for setting up a 60 MW solar power plant. This is a joint venture company of Bangladesh’s state run North-West Power Generation Company Ltd (NWPGCL) and the China National Machinery Import and Export Corporation (CMC). The said 60 MW project is part of a larger project to generate 450 MW electricity from renewables in Sujanagar, Pabna, in the northwest of Bangladesh.

Turkey floats a 1.5 GW solar tender

Turkey has invited bids for a 1.5 GW solar tender for the fifth auction round of its Yenilenebilir Enerji Kaynak Alanları (YEKA) renewable energy programme. The ceiling tariff has been set at $0.045 per kWh by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources. The Turkish government aims to select 76 large-scale solar projects with capacities ranging from 10 MW to 30 MW across 23 regions.

Germany’s solar capacity increased by 2.75 GW in 1H 2021

According to the latest figures provided by the Federal Network Agency Bundesnetzagentur, Germany added 1.43 GW of solar capacity in the second quarter (Q2) of 2021. Compared to the previous quarter, solar installation increased by 113 MW (8.56 percent) in the second quarter, up from 1.32 GW. Installations increased 15% year over year to 1.24 GW in Q2 2020, compared to 1.24 GW in Q2 2019.

South Africa receives 102 bids for 2.6 GW of wind and solar projects

South Africa’s Department of Mineral Resources and Energy has received 102 bids for 2.6 GW of renewable energy projects. Of the bids received, 63 were for solar projects while 39 were for wind projects. The announcement follows South Africa’s fifth renewable energy tender, floated in March 2021 for 2.6 GW of clean energy projects.

Bangladesh floats a tender for 68 MW solar park

An international tender for the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) of a 68 MW solar PV park in Bangladesh’s Sirajganj area has been issued. The Bangladesh China Renewable Energy Company Ltd, a joint venture between Bangladesh’s North-West Power Generation Company Limited and the China National Machinery Import and Export Corporation, has launched the bid, which includes the construction of a 15km 132 kV double circuit transmission line with a substation bay extension.

Maldives’ Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Technology has floated a tender for the engineering, procurement, construction of a 40 MW/40 MWh battery energy storage systems (BESS) across 11 select islands. Dutch energy company Eneco and Danish European Energy have formed a new joint venture called Swan Wind. The two companies had joined forces so as to submit a proposal for the Thor offshore wind farm tender and Danish Energy Agency has recently qualified this joint venture for the said tender. Thor offshore wind farm is one of the two large offshore wind farms to be built in Denmark before 2030.

Brookfield, Adani and AMP win 1.2GW wind-solar hybrid projects in India

India’s Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has allocated 1.2 GW of wind-solar hybrid capacity among four renewable energy developers under Tranche III of the interstate transmission system (ISTS). Brookfield Asset Management backed ABC Renewable Energy, Adani Renewable Energy and the Indian arm of AMP Energy were awarded 380 MW, 600 MW and 130 MW of capacity respectively for Rs 2.41 ($0.033) per kWh.

Indonesia’s PLN invites bids for solar and bioenergy developers

Indonesia’s state-owned power utility, PT PLN (PLN), recently issued two pre-qualification tenders inviting bidders to apply for inclusion in the list of selected developers (DPT) for solar PV and bioenergy (biomass and biogas) projects. Once developers pass the prequalification process, they will be eligible to be invited to participate in future PLN bids.
