Siemens Gamesa receives typhoon certification for 11 MW offshore wind turbine

Siemens Gamesa has earned a second rotor-nacelle assembly (RNA) IEC type certificate covering tolerance to extreme wind conditions for its 11 MW model. Last year, its 8 MW offshore wind turbine was certified as typhoon-proof. Issued by TÜV NORD, the certification confirms that the two Siemens Gamesa machines can endure Typhoon- or T-class wind rates of up to 57 metres per second for 10 minutes and three-second gusts of up to 79.8 metres per second.
