India announces strategy for offshore wind development
On August 17, 2023, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) released a revised strategy for the development of offshore wind energy projects in India. The policy provides a framework for offshore wind power development up to a seaward distance of 200 nautical miles from the country’s exclusive economic zone. Based on a multi-criteria approach that involved the assessment of various parameters such as wind resource and bathymetry, the consortium identified eight zones each off the coasts of Gujarat and Tamil Nadu as potential offshore wind energy zones.
