TotalEnergies and Air Products have entered into a 15-year agreement to supply Europe with 70,000 tons of green hydrogen annually, starting in 2030. This agreement follows TotalEnergies’ tender request for 500,000 tons of green hydrogen annually to decarbonise its European refineries.

According to the agreement, Air Products will supply green hydrogen directly to TotalEnergies’ Northern European refineries from its global supply network. Additionally, this will prevent approximately 700,000 tons of carbon emissions each year.

In September 2023, TotalEnergies finalised an agreement with Air Liquide for the long-term supply of TotalEnergies’ refinery in Gonfreville, Normandy, France, with green and low-carbon hydrogen.

REGlobal’s Views: TotalEnergies aims to fully decarbonise the hydrogen used in its European refineries and this tender for 500,000 tons of annual green hydrogen supply is meant to accelerate this plan.
