TotalEnergies will supply renewable energy to Amazon through power purchase agreements (PPAs) across the United States and Europe, while the internet retail giant will assist TotalEnergies in prolonging its digital transformation as part of strategic collaboration.

The PPAs are for electricity generated by 474MW of renewable energy projects, which would aid Amazon in its goal of powering its operations with 100 percent renewable energy by 2030 and achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. The two companies intend to broaden their collaboration to the Middle East and Asia-Pacific.

With Amazon Web Services (AWS) as a primary cloud provider, TotalEnergies will expedite its cloud solution, boosting its IT transformation, operational digitalization, and digital innovation. TotalEnergies’ Digital Factory, in particular, will benefit from the breadth and depth of AWS services, such as infrastructure, speed, dependability, and new services. TotalEnergies will also explore AWS High-Performance Computing technologies to improve crucial workflows and drive innovation across its global enterprises.

The collaboration will not only accelerate TotalEnergies’ cloud migration but will also help Amazon meet its goal to power their operations with 100 percent renewable energy. TotalEnergies plans to increase its renewable power generating capacity from 7 GW at the end of last year to 35 GW by 2025, and 100 GW by 2030, as part of its goal of reaching net-zero by 2050 and becoming a larger energy firm.
