Total Energies plans to set up 500 MW of solar projects in Libya

Total Energies and Libya’s General Electricity Company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the long-term development of solar photovoltaic projects with a total capacity of 500 MW to supply electricity to the national grid and a $2 billion investment in crude oil and gas extraction. The agreements were made at the Libya Energy & Economy Summit, which was organised by the Government of National Unity and was the first economic conference in Libya in 10 years.

UAE companies aim for 30 GW of renewable capacity by 2030

Abu Dhabi National Oil Co (ADNOC) and Abu Dhabi National Energy Company PJSC (TAQA)  have formed a strategic cooperation on clean energy, with the aim of having 30 GW of renewable capacity by 2030. The new collaboration between ADNOC and TAQA will focus on domestic and worldwide renewable energy and waste-to-energy projects, as well as green hydrogen generation, processing, and storage, and ancillary operations.

GE and UKEF to finance 1.35 GW Turkish solar project

GE Energy Financial Services and UK Export Finance (UKEF), the UK’s export credit agency have secured an agreement to fund Kalyon Enerji’s 1.35 GW Karapinar solar project in Konya Karapinar region. The solar power plant is Turkey’s largest solar facility, which is around 11 km long and 3 km wide. GE Energy collaborated with UKEF, which will guarantee a $291 million buyer credit facility, pending financial completion.

Engie and Crédit Agricole Assurances acquire Eolia Renewables

Engie, a French energy company, and Crédit Agricole Assurances, a French insurance company, have agreed to acquire Eolia Renovables, a Spanish renewable energy provider. Engie will gain 821 MW of onshore wind capacity, 78 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity, and a 1.2 GW pipeline of renewable projects as part of the acquisition.

CPV acquires 460 MW of solar projects from Belltown Power

Competitive Power Ventures (CPV) has finalised the acquisition of two solar photovoltaic projects under development from Belltown Power USA Development. These include the Prairie Dock Solar project in Illinois (360 MW) and the Stonecrop Solar project in Kentucky (100 MW). These two solar projects are estimated to provide enough clean electricity to power around 87,000 homes once operational.

The world’s reportedly largest hydro-floating solar hybrid project, built by EGAT at Sirindhorn Dam has begun commercial operation. The 45 MW Hydro-Floating Solar Hybrid Project at Sirindhorn Dam in Ubon Ratchathani Province began commercial operation on October 31, 2021. It will also become a new tourism attraction for the province of Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand in early 2022.

Turkey plans to increase its solar capacity by 2022

Turkey is expected to increase the share of renewable sources in energy production starting from 2022. Solar energy production is predicted to witness the largest capacity increase in 2022, with around 1,000 MW. According to media reports, the Energy and Natural Resources Ministry’s strategic plan for 2023 intends to boost renewable energy sources’ share of overall electricity production from 59 to 65 per cent.

Ameresco to supply battery storage systems to Southern California Edison

Southern California Edison (SCE) has signed a contract with Ameresco, a cleantech integrator and renewable energy asset developer, owner, and operator, to design and build three grid scale battery energy storage systems (BESSs) at existing substation parcels throughout SCE’s service territory in California. The systems have a total capacity of 537.5 MW and a four-hour endurance, totalling 2,150 MWh.

Apple has revealed that the company has more than doubled the number of suppliers committed to using 100 percent clean energy over the last year, speeding up progress toward its ambitious 2030 target of becoming carbon neutral across its supply chain and products. Green Genius secures $23.2 million for solar projects in Europe

Lithuanian renewables developer Green Genius has secured $23.2 million in financing from French asset management firm Eiffel Investment Group to finalise the development of solar PV projects in Italy and Spain. The funds were provided by the French group’s energy transition vehicles and will be used to cover the project’s pre-construction costs.
