Scatec plans to build a green hydrogen plant in Egypt

Scatec of Norway has announced proposals to build a green hydrogen plant in Ain Sokhna, Egypt, in collaboration with Fertiglobe and the Egyptian Sovereign Fund. The electrolyser will be 50 MW to 100 MW in size. The project, which will be created as part of Scatec’s “Power to X” plan, will produce green hydrogen for use as a feedstock in the creation of green ammonia.

US DOE sets new goals for community solar uptake

The US Department of Energy (DOE) has set a new goal for the National Community Solar Partnership (NCSP) by 2025, community solar systems will be able to power the equivalent of five million homes, saving $1 billion in energy costs. As per a statement, achieving DOE’s new NSCP target would increase community solar by more than 700 per cent by 2025.

Nordex wins order of 14 turbines from Eksim Holding

Nordex, a German turbine manufacturer, has won an order for fourteen N149/4.X turbines from Eksim Holding of Istanbul, Turkey, for the latter’s first wind project in Ukraine. A premium service contract for a duration of 15 years is also included in the order. The Skole wind farm will be erected near the city of Skole in West Ukraine, with a total capacity of 67.2 MW. The turbines are expected to be installed in March 2022

Shell to deploy 800 MW of solar power in the UK

Shell has signed agreements to deploy more than 800 MW of solar power generation in the UK. The company signed a framework agreement with Green Power to develop 700 MW of utility-scale solar projects with the possibility of co-located battery storage. In a separate arrangement with Clearstone Energy, 100 MW of utility-scale solar producing capacity will be installed in the South-East of England.

Australia provides $180 million in grants to promote carbon capture

Australia has committed to providing $180 million in grants to support the development of carbon capture, use and storage (CCUS) projects, part of a broader technology push to help cut carbon emissions, while still allowing for the use of gas and coal. The funds will be used to support the design and construction of carbon capture hubs and shared infrastructure, as well as carbon capture technology research and commercialization, and the identification of viable carbon storage sites.

Xlinks plans a 10.5 GW solar-wind hybrid in Morocco

Xlinks, a British company, is building a 10.5 GW solar-plus-wind project in Morocco, along with a battery storage facility, that will supply 3.6 GW of renewable energy to the UK via subsea cables. It will be located in Guelmim Oued Noun, a renewable energy-rich region of Morocco, and will span an area of 1,500km square, with 3,800km of HVDC subsea cables connecting it exclusively to Great Britain.

Algeria to launch tender for 1 GW of solar power projects

The energy ministry of Algeria has announced its plans to invite tenders for the deployment of 1 GW of solar energy projects. The tender is expected to be launched by the end of October 2021. The tender is likely to conclude with prices ranging from DZD 5 per kWh to DZD 7 per kWh.
