BP and Microsoft have agreed to collaborate as strategic partners to facilitate digital transformation in energy systems and help the companies work towards their goals of becoming carbon neutral. A memorandum of understanding was signed by the two firms which includes the capabilities of each company to further the world’s collective goal of decarbonisation.

Microsoft’s digital expertise with BP’s deep understanding of energy markets will initially focus on areas such as smart and clean cities, clean energy parks, consumer energy and industrial internet of things solutions. As a part of this initiative, the companies will co-develop innovative, clean energy parks with an ecosystem of low carbon technologies such as carbon capture use and storage to prevent or reduce emissions.

BP and Microsoft have agreed upon a framework agreement for renewable energy projects. The framework aims to help Microsoft reach its goal of 100 per cent renewable energy by 2025. BP will supply renewable energy for powering Microsoft’s data centres across multiple countries and regions including the United States, Europe and Latin America.
