EWEC selects partners to develop 1.5 GW solar project in Abu Dhabi

EWEC (Emirates Water and Electricity Company) has chosen EDF Renewables and Korea Western Power Company (KOWEPO), in collaboration with Masdar as the local partner, to develop the 1.5 GW Al Ajban Solar PV Independent Power Project. The project’s Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) was subsequently signed between EWEC and the stakeholders. This signing event occurred at the World Future Energy Summit.

ACWA Power to develop $4 billion green hydrogen project in Egypt

ACWA Power has signed the framework agreement, following the MoU that was signed on December 7, 2022 to outline the development of the first phase of the green hydrogen project in Egypt. The project will have a capacity of 600,000 tonnes-per-year of green ammonia, with an investment in excess of $4 billion. Further, the project will be scaled up to a second phase with a potential capacity of 2 million tonnes-per-year.

Dubai inaugurates a large CSP project

Dubai has launched the world’s largest concentrated solar power (CSP) plant as part of the 950 MW fourth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in the UAE. The vice president and prime minister of the UAE launched the project. Three hybrid technologies are included in the fourth phase: 250 MW of photovoltaic solar panels, a 100 MW CSP tower, and a 600 MW parabolic basin complex.

GreenGo files application for 60 GW green energy park in Mauritania

GreenGo Energy, a Danish clean energy developer has filed an application to the Ministry of Petroleum, Energy and Mines in Mauritania for the development of Megaton Moon green energy park. Furthermore, Megaton Moon is planned for a staged implementation process closing the circular architecture to reach 60 GW/ 190 TWh of hybrid solar and wind generation and 35 GW electrolysis producing 4 million tons of green hydrogen yearly or further processed 18 million tons of green ammonia.

South Africa greenlights 203 MW hybrid renewable energy projects

South Africa has signed project agreements with additional two preferred bidders appointed under the Risk Mitigation Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (RMIPPPP), in Pretoria for two hybrid projects. Gwede Mantashe, Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy has finalised an agreement of 203 MW with bidders. The projects consist of a combination of battery storage technologies, solar PV and onshore wind.

TotalEnergies begins 1 GW solar project in Iraq

TotalEnergies, a French energy giant, has initiated its project for the development of a 1 GW solar park in southern Iraq. The project is one of four contracts TotalEnergies has with the Iraqi Ministry of Oil for facilities in the Basra Governorate for gas, oil, renewable energy, and seawater desalination. Advanced Ionics, a US-based provider of next-generation industrial electrolysers, has raised $12.5 million in Series A from bp and other investors. Some of the other investors include Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, GVP Climate, and Clean Energy Ventures. The funding will aid in the growth of Advanced Ionics, facilitating initial implementation of its Symbion water vapour electrolyser for heavy industry.

PV Hardware (PVH), a Spain-based global manufacturer and supplier of solar trackers, has announced the signing of a contract with Larsen & Toubro (L&T) for the supply of 805 MW (DC) capacity of solar trackers. The PV project will be situated in Qassim province near Ar Rass city, Saudi Arabia. As a strategic effort for Saudi Vision 2030, the project will be a part of the National Renewable Energy Programme and it will be managed by the Ministry of Energy.

ACWA and Hassan partner to develop 1.1 GW wind project in Egypt

ACWA Power, a Saudi energy company, and Hassan Allam Holdings, an Egyptian engineering firm, have signed a project agreement to develop a 1.1 GW wind project. The wind project will be constructed in Egypt’s Gulf of Suez and Gabal el Zeit region and will cost $1.5 billion. The project is scheduled to be financially closed by the third quarter of 2024 and operational by the end of 2026.

EWEC invites EoI for 1.5 GW of solar PV project in Abu Dhabi

The Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has invited developers to submit expressions of interest (EOIs) for a 1.5 GW solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Abu Dhabi. The Al Ajban Solar PV project would be built in the Ajban area of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The solar project will have the capacity to power nearly 160,000 homes across the UAE once it is operational, displacing more than 2.4 million tonnes of carbon dioxide each year.
