EWEC gives approval for 4.6 GW of renewables projects in Abu Dhabi

EWEC (Emirates Water and Electricity Company) has announced approval for the allocation of four new sites for renewable energy projects in Abu Dhabi. These sites span approximately 75 square km and are designated for the development of advanced solar photovoltaic (PV) and wind energy facilities. Furthermore, these four sites will have three new solar photovoltaic (PV) plants in Al Faya, Al Khazna, and Al Zarraf, along with a wind farm in Sila.

TotalEnergies and OQAE to develop 300 MW clean energy projects in Oman

TotalEnergies has inked an agreement with OQ Alternative Energy (OQAE) to develop 300 MW renewable energy projects in Oman. The generated electricity will be supplied to Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) through long-term power purchase agreements (PPA). The share split between TotalEnergies and OQAE for these projects will be 49 per cent and 51 per cent respectively.

Azerbaijan concludes first renewable energy auction

Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Energy has successfully completed its first renewable energy auction, awarding a 100 MW solar power project to Universal International Holdings. The Chinese company secured the contract with a competitive bid of $0.0354 per kWh and will be responsible for designing, financing, building, and operating the solar plant in the Garadagh region, located near Azerbaijan’s Caspian Sea coastline. The facility is expected to begin operations in 2027.

VNG AG to import green hydrogen from Algeria

VNG AG has signed a letter of intent with Algerian energy firms Sonatrach and Sonelgaz, SNAM, SeaCorridor, and VERBUND. The agreement reflects the commitment of these companies to jointly assess the feasibility of large-scale green hydrogen production in Algeria and its export from North Africa via the proposed “South H2 Corridor” to Italy, Austria, and Germany.

JinkoSolar and ACWA Power ink 3 GW solar module supply deal

JinkoSolar has signed a supply contract with ACWA Power for approximately 3 GW of photovoltaic modules for the Saudi PIF4 project. The latest contract reflects the implementation of a previously signed framework agreement for global photovoltaic project collaboration. The contract includes two sub-projects within the PIF4 cluster: the Haden and Al-Khushaybi solar power stations.

EDF, KOWEPO and Masdar secure funding for 1.5 GW solar project

EDF Renewables, Korea Western Power (KOWEPO), and Masdar announced the financial closing of the 1.5 GW AC Al Ajban Solar Photovoltaic independent power producer project in Abu Dhabi. The project company, with EDF Renewables and KOWEPO each holding a 20 percent stake and Masdar holding a 60 percent stake, signed a 30-year power purchase agreement with the Emirates Water and Electricity Company to design, finance, build, and operate the plant.

QatarEnergy has unveiled plans for a new solar mega project that will more than double the country’s solar energy output. The project will increase Qatar’s PV solar capacity to around 4 GW by constructing one of the world’s largest solar plants in Dukhan, with a capacity of 2 GW. QatarEnergy is a state-owned company responsible for all oil and gas activities in Qatar.

HDF Energy inks green hydrogen MoU with Tunisian Ministry of Energy

HDF Energy (Hydrogène de France), a developer of large-scale hydrogen infrastructure, has inked a MoU with the Tunisian Government represented by the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy to launch a large-scale green hydrogen project in Tunisia. This project, with an initial investment of approximately €3 billion, will service both the European market and domestic requirements. The MoU proposes a large-scale green hydrogen project using 1 GW of wind energy, 500 MW of photovoltaic energy, and 800 MW of electrolysers to produce up to 65,000 tonnes of hydrogen.

DEME, OQ, and bp partner for green hydrogen project in Oman

DEME and OQ have announced their partnership with bp for the HYPORT Duqm project in Oman, with bp acquiring 49 per cent stake and serving as the operator and equity partner. DEME and OQ will each hold 25.5 per cent. The project is currently in the design phase and is anticipated to begin commercial operations by 2031. The project will generate green hydrogen and ammonia using wind and solar energy, starting with a capacity of about 1.3 GW and potentially increasing to over 2.7 GW.

KBR to develop renewable energy and green hydrogen plan for Kuwait

KBR has secured an advisory consulting contract from Kuwait Oil Company to develop a plan for producing 17 GW of renewable energy and 25 GW of green hydrogen across Kuwait by 2050. According to the agreement, KBR will offer consulting services to create a phased plan for deploying significant wind and solar power, as well as incorporating power storage capabilities. This work is expected to be performed over the next 18 months.

Saudi Power Procurement Company signs 5.5 GW solar PPAs

The Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) has inked power purchase agreements (PPAs)  for three solar photovoltaic (PV) projects totaling 5.5 GW in Saudi Arabia. The agreements were signed with a consortium of Acwa Power, Badeel, and Aramco Power. These projects include Haden Solar PV and Al-Muwaih Solar PV, each with a capacity of 2000 MW and located in Makkah Province, as well as Al-Khushaybi PV in Qassim Province, which has a capacity of 1500 MW.

TE H2 and VERBUND partner on green hydrogen project in Tunisia

TE H2, a joint-venture between TotalEnergies and EREN Groupe, together with VERBUND has partnered with the Republic of Tunisia to study the implementation of a large green hydrogen project named “H2 Notos” for export to Central Europe through pipelines. H2 Notos plans to generate green hydrogen by using electrolysers powered by large-scale onshore wind and solar projects, with desalinated sea water as a resource.

EWEC selects partners to develop 1.5 GW solar project in Abu Dhabi

EWEC (Emirates Water and Electricity Company) has chosen EDF Renewables and Korea Western Power Company (KOWEPO), in collaboration with Masdar as the local partner, to develop the 1.5 GW Al Ajban Solar PV Independent Power Project. The project’s Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) was subsequently signed between EWEC and the stakeholders. This signing event occurred at the World Future Energy Summit.
