Scatec begins operations of 273 MW solar plant in South Africa

Scatec ASA has commenced commercial operations of the 273 MW Grootfontein solar project in South Africa. The project, located in the Western Cape, will supply electricity under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA). It is expected to produce 700 GWh of electricity annually. The project is anticipated to offset around 630,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.

Colombia launches Gecelca Solar for clean energy transition

The Ministry of Mines and Energy of the Colombian government has announced the formation of Gecelca Solar as a new platform to support Colombia’s energy transition. Deutsche Bahn and BEE ink solar PPA in Germany

Deutsche Bahn (DB), through its subsidiary DB Energie, has entered two long-duration power purchase agreements with Blue Elephant Energy GmbH (BEE) for the supply of around 2.5 TWh of solar power. The power will come from two large solar projects planned in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. Both projects are scheduled to become operational by mid-2027. The agreements run for up to 13 years.

CREC secures financing for 113 MWp solar project in Philippines

Citicore Renewable Energy Corporation (CREC) has entered into a Php 3.975 billion project finance loan facility with the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) to support the completion of the 113 MWp Citicore Solar Pangasinan 2 project in Binalonan, Pangasinan. BPI Capital Corporation acted as the sole lead arranger for this financing transaction. Furthermore, the has received a Certificate of Energy Project of National Significance.

Italy auctions 7.4 GW solar and 940 MW wind projects 

Italy’s energy management agency has released the results for wind and solar projects under the FER-X Transitory decree. A total of around 940 MW has been allocated to 29 wind projects, with a weighted average award price of €72.851 per MWh. Additionally, approximately 7,700 MW has been awarded to 474 solar projects, with a weighted average award price of €6.825 per MWh.

Renova secures financing for decentralised solar projects in Japan

Renova has completed a project finance arrangement totalling 22.3 billion yen to support a portfolio of decentralised solar projects. The financing was executed through First Solar Power G.K., and will cover around 1,300 sites with a combined capacity of 170 MWdc. The financing package has been structured with Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank as the arranger, alongside The Bank of Fukuoka as joint arranger, and Resona Bank as co-arranger.

Germany announces results of biomass and solar auctions

The Federal Network Agency has released the outcomes of the auctions conducted on October 1, 2025, for biomass plants and solar projects located on buildings and noise barriers. For biomass, the tendered capacity was 813 MW. A total of 807 bids amounting to 940 MW were received. The auction for solar installations on buildings and noise barriers received 140 bids totalling 310 MW against the tendered capacity of 283 MW.

RWE commissions solar-plus-storage project in Texas

RWE has commissioned the Stoneridge solar project in Milam County, Texas. The project, comprising 200 MW of solar capacity along with 100 MW/200 MWh of battery storage, will contribute to strengthening the regional energy supply. Axpo completes construction of 200 MWp solar complex in Spain

Axpo has finished constructing a 200 MWp solar complex in León province in Spain, comprising four 50 MWp solar plants located across Villadangos del Páramo and Cimanes de Tejar. The Vilecha complex spans more than 360 hectares and is scheduled to begin supplying electricity to Spain’s national grid by the end of the first quarter of 2026. The combined output of the complex is expected to exceed 377,000 MWh annually.

First Solar inaugurates new manufacturing facility in Louisiana

First Solar has inaugurated a fully vertically integrated manufacturing plant in Iberia Parish, Louisiana, following an investment of $1.1 billion. The facility spans roughly 2.4 million square feet and began production in July 2025. CPS Energy launches RfPs for 600 MW solar capacity

CPS Energy has released a request for proposals (RfPs) to procure up to 600 MW of solar capacity through one or more power purchase agreements. The tender is part of the utility’s Vision 2027 generation plan, which focuses on ensuring reliable and affordable supply for the San Antonio region. The RfP submission deadline is January 8, 2026. Following this, the utility expects its solar portfolio to exceed 1,600 MW in capacity.

JUWI sells 156 MW Greek solar portfolio to Mirova

JUWI, a subsidiary of MVV Energie AG, has signed an agreement to sell the Clover portfolio in Greece to Mirova, an affiliate of Natixis Investment Managers. The Clover portfolio, which JUWI Hellas developed, covers four utility-scale solar projects with a combined capacity of 156 MW, located in the regions of Kozani and Grevena in Northwest Greece. Construction for the portfolio is planned to start in November 2025.

TotalEnergies commences operations of 112 MW solar project in Saudi Arabia

The consortium consisting of TotalEnergies, Toyota Tsusho, and Altaaqa Renewable Energy has commenced commercial operations of its 112 MW solar project located in Wadi Ad-Dawasir, Saudi Arabia. The facility was constructed by SEPCO, a subsidiary of Power China, and achieved commissioning in July 2025. The generated power is being delivered to the Saudi Power Procurement Company under a power purchase agreement.

rPlus Energies acquires 900 MW solar-plus-storage projects in Idaho

rPlus Energies has completed the acquisition of two solar-plus-storage projects in Ada County, Idaho. The two projects are the Blacks Creek energy center and the Bluebird solar project, with a cumulative capacity of 900 MW. The  Blacks Creek energy center consists of 400 MW of solar capacity along with 200 MW of storage. The acquisitions add to the company’s existing activities in Ada County.

TotalEnergies and Google ink PPA for solar project in US

TotalEnergies has signed a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Google for the supply of 1.5 TWh of renewable electricity from its Montpelier solar farm located in Ohio. The solar project, which is nearing completion, is connected to the PJM grid system. The renewable electricity supplied under this agreement will support Google’s data centre operations in Ohio.
