Turkey-based Desiba Energy has entered into an agreement with government of Gabon to install a 20 MW solar power plant in Mouila in the province of Ngounié in Gabon, Central Africa. Desiba intends to invest 27 million euros in the construction of its solar photovoltaic power plant. The project is set to be completed in 12 months.
Desiba has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Société d’énergie et d’eau du Gabon (SEEG) in February 2021. The state-owned company would buy electricity at 95 CFA francs (over 14 euro cents) per unit. The project will be implemented in the line with Gabon’s Transformation Acceleration Plan (PAT) through which the nation is aiming to improve access to electricity and promote job creation. According to the report, the country would need to have at least 1,250 MW of power generation capacity by 2040.
In August 2021, Globeleq, a South African independent power producer, had completed the senior debt refinancing of three of its renewable energy plants, totaling 238 MW. Absa Bank, part of the financial services company Absa Group Ltd, served as the required lead arranger and sole underwriter for the $362 million debt financing package. In July 2021, Total Energies signed a preliminary agreement with government of Gabon for the construction of a 50 MWp solar power plant near the capital Libreville.
