EDF Power Solutions North America, Red Rock Indian Band, and Fort William First Nation have signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Ontario’s Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) for the 200 MW Northern Breeze Energy wind project, located near Thunder Bay. The project is owned 50 per cent by EDF Power Solutions, 25 per cent each by Red Rock Indian Brand and Fort William First Nation.
The project is expected to be commissioned in 2029. The project will include up to 34 wind turbines capable of generating power for approximately 64,500 homes. Additionally, the project is one of 13 clean energy projects contributing to Ontario IESO’s total contracted capacity of 1,115.10 MW under the LT2 programme. The project represents an investment of more than $700 million CAD.
In April 2026, Neoen secured two 20-year contracts from the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) for two new solar farms of 318 MWp (250 MWac) combined capacity in Ontario. The contracts cover 100 per cent of the new plants’ output. The projects include a 253 MWp solar farm near Dunns Valley and a 65 MWp solar farm near Paradis Bay. The combined generation from these projects is expected to reach approximately 475 GWh on an annual basis, powering over 50,000 homes in Ontario.
