Fidra Energy and Sungrow have signed a strategic partnership agreement under which Sungrow will supply 4.4 GWh of energy storage systems (ESS) to Fidra. This will support Fidra’s plans to deploy 10 GW battery energy storage system (BESS) across the UK and Europe by 2030. Under the agreement, Sungrow will provide its PowerTitan 2.0 liquid-cooled energy storage systems for Fidra’s Thorpe Marsh and West Burton C sites in the UK.

The systems are to be of two-hour duration initially with expansion potential to a four-hour system. Sungrow will provide long-term maintenance services for both projects. The Thorpe Marsh site in South Yorkshire, is set for construction in 2025, while the West Burton C project in Nottinghamshire, is scheduled for 2026.

In May 2024, Sungrow signed supply and service agreements with Nofar Energy for a new BESS project in Stendal, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, featuring the PowerTitan2.0 liquid-cooled energy storage system, with a capacity of 116.5 MW/230 MWh.

REGlobal’s Views: With UK’s expanding energy storage market, a series of energy storage projects have been announced in the country, that will help in providing grid stability. Companies like SSE Renewables, EDF, and The Renewables Infrastructure Group have already announced large energy storage projects as the country witnesses increasing penetration of renewables.
