Matrix Renewables, through a partnership with Green BESS Developments (UK) Limited, has entered into the UK market. Through this partnership, the companies will take forward the development of two standalone battery energy systems (BESS) projects in Scotland. The two projects are Eccles and Kilmarnock and will deliver a combined capacity of 1 GW/2 GWh.
Furthermore, the projects are located at two strategic sites along major electricity transmission corridors between Scotland and England. Grid connection of the projects is expected to take place in 2027. Additionally, Matrix Renewables is currently handling the advanced negotiations with a UK-based EPC provider for finalising the technical configuration, offtake strategy, and financing structure of the projects.
Earlier in January 2024, Emeren Group sold Matrix Renewables two BESS projects in Italy with a combined capacity of 293 MW. The transaction was a part of the June 2023 DSA Emeren and Matrix agreement for the expansion of the BESS portfolio by 1.5 GW. The two projects are in Apulia and Lazio, respectively.
