Orlen, a Polish oil and gas company has finalised to purchase two wind farms in Poland with a combined capacity of 60 MW from a subsidiary of Octopus Renewables Infrastructure Trust. Located in the Provinces of Pozna and Szczecin, there are units with a combined capacity of roughly 60 MW. Furthermore, these wind farms, which went into function in 2022, can supply over 100,000 homes with all of their yearly energy needs. Reportedly, after execution of the purchase, ORLEN will have a roughly 1 GW overall capacity for renewable energy.
The Kuślin wind farm, which is near the town of Nowy Tomyl in Pozna, has a 40 MW output. This project, which commenced operations in December 2023, is driven by 12 Vestas turbines, each with a capacity of 3.3 MW. Meanwhile, Krzęcin, which is the second wind farm, is located close to Choszczno in the province of Szczecin. It commenced operations in February 2023 and is projected to continue for 30 years. Eight Nordex turbines, totaling 19 MW, each having a 2.4 MW capacity, power it.
In September 2023, Poland’s Baltic Power offshore wind project of 1,140 MW situated in the Baltic Sea, reached a significant milestone by receiving financing from a group of 25 financial institutions. The project was being built by a 51:49 joint venture between Polish oil refiner PKN Orlen and Canada’s Northland Power In.
