Sonnedix, a Spanish renewable energy producer, has commenced construction of the 149 MW Douro solar plant in Portugal. It is situated in Tarouca municipality in the Viseu district of northern Portugal. Reportedly, Sonnedix has given the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for the solar facility to Zagope which is a Portuguese EPC contractor.

Furthermore, it will be linked to a 14 km long 220 kV transmission line developed by CME. The project is scheduled to be finished by the end of 2024. Moreover, the project will produce 234.5 GWh of renewable energy each year, which will be sufficient to power 78,000 Portuguese residences while reducing 35,000 tonnes per year of carbon dioxide emissions.

In May 2023, Sonnedix signed a ten-year power purchase agreement with internet services giant Equinix to supply power from three 150 MW solar projects in Spain. The solar plants were located in Cuenca, Castilla-La Mancha.
