Statkraft has proposed the development of a green hydrogen facility at Hunterston. Clydeport has exchanged an option agreement with Statkraft to explore the potential development of the facility at its Hunterston PARC (Port and Resource Campus) site.
The facility will be utilised for the production, storage, and export of hydrogen. Furthermore, the facility is linked to the existing jetty at the site via pipeline and will allow hydrogen to be exported from the UK on vessels in the form of ammonia.
Earlier in October 2024, Statkraft was selected to negotiate a grant of up to €107 million for its project, which includes a 200 MW electrolysis plant and a 50 MW heat pump system. This setup has the potential to produce up to 20,000 tonnes of renewable hydrogen and 50,000 MWh of green heat annually. The funding came from the EU Innovation Fund.
