The project is being developed by EDF power solutions Canada, Alliance de l’énergie de l’Est, and Société de gestion éolienne de la Madawaska Inc. Financing has been arranged through a consortium comprising Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, National Bank of Canada, Desjardins Group, and KfW IPEX-Bank.

Boralex Inc. and Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation (SNGRDC) have announced the commercial commissioning of the 300 MW/1,200 MWh  Hagersville battery energy storage park in Ontario, Canada. It will be located across forested areas within the municipalities of Cap-Saint-Ignace, Montmagny, Notre-Dame-du-Rosaire, and Sainte-Apolline-de-Patton in the Montmagny regional county municipality. The development is being undertaken through an equal partnership between EDF solutions électriques and Alliance de l’énergie de l’Est.

ECF and partners join forces for green hydrogen project in Canada

Elemental Clean Fuels (ECF) is working with Sc.wén̓wen Economic Development and Kruger Kamloops Pulp L.P. on the Kamloops Clean Energy Centre (KCEC), a proposed green hydrogen facility with a planned capacity of 10 MW. The KCEC project is planned at the Kruger Kamloops pulp mill in Kamloops, British Columbia, and is expected to supply all of its green hydrogen output directly to the kiln operations.

Atlantica acquires Statkraft’s Canadian renewable platform

Atlantica Sustainable Infrastructure has finalised the acquisition of Statkraft’s renewable energy platform in Canada. The platform consists of 236 MW of operational capacity, along with a development pipeline of around 600 MW spanning renewable and storage projects. The operational portfolio includes a 51 per cent interest in l’Érable, a 100 MW wind project in Quebec operating since 2013, and a 136 MW wind project in Alberta. .

The Government of Ontario has announced a new round of its Hydrogen Innovation Fund (HIF) with an investment of $30 million. This funding doubles the amount allocated in the previous round and aims to support projects that advance hydrogen development to strengthen Ontario’s clean energy economy. The fund is administered by the Independent Electricity System Operator.

Canada invests $13 million in Ontario’s grid modernisation

The Government of Canada has announced an investment of more than $13 million for five projects aimed at electricity grid modernisation in Ontario. The funding is being provided under the Energy Innovation programme – Smart Grids Demonstration call for proposals. Funding support includes $6 million for a project in Mississauga by Alectra Utilities Corporation, as well as $3.14 million for a Toronto-based platform by Peak Power Inc.

Vestas bags 274 MW wind order in Canada

Vestas has received a 274 MW order from EDF Power Solutions North America for the Madawaska wind project in Québec, Canada. The order includes the supply of 25 EnVentus V162-6.0 MW wind turbines and 20 EnVentus V162-6.2 MW wind turbines. Furthermore, the agreement covers a 10-year active output management 5000 service contract. Delivery of the turbines is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2026, with commissioning scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2027.

ACCIONA Energía has started commercial operations at the Forty Mile wind farm. The project has a capacity of 280 MW and is situated in Alberta, Canada. The wind farm features 49 Nordex turbines, each with a capacity of 5.7 MW and a tower height of 108 meters. This article explores trends in G7 members’ fossil fuel subsidies, recent action by G7 members to phase out these subsidies, and recommendations for G7 leaders for 2025 and beyond to make meaningful progress. In 2023, total G7 fossil fuel subsidies rose by more than USD 40 billion above 2022 levels, which in turn were a large increase over preceding years. These increases were driven by countries’ responses to the energy crisis brought on by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The 2023 increase was led by Germany, whose fossil fuel subsidies rose from USD 18 billion to USD 83 billion year-on-year due to its price brakes on gas, heat, and electricity.

$960 million financing secured for 400 MW wind project in Canada

La Société de projet BVH1, s.e.n.c., a corporation jointly created by Boralex Inc., Énergir Développement Inc., and Hydro-Québec, has secured $960 million financing for the 400 MW Des Neiges – Secteur sud wind power project. The project is currently under construction on the private lands of Seigneurie de Beaupré. The financing for the wind project consists of a $733 million construction loan.
