clearvise AG signs wind and solar PPAs in Germany and Ireland

clearvise AG has signed power purchase agreements (PPAs) for five wind and solar projects across Germany and Ireland. The agreements cover four German solar parks: Klettwitz Nord (90 MW), Alsweiler (10 MW), Lohne (8.6 MW), Triticum (16.8 MW) and the 35 MW Glenough wind farm in Ireland. The PPAs are of 9-12 months and are expected to generate over €0.7 million in additional earnings compared to previous budget projections.

ib vogt divests 272 MWp Irish solar portfolio

ib vogt has completed the sale of a 272 MWp solar portfolio in Ireland for a total enterprise value of approximately €230 million. The portfolio comprises three utility-scale projects: Gaskinstown with a capacity of 94.7 MWp in County Meath, Rathnaskilloge with a capacity of 107.7 MWp in County Waterford, and Clonin North with a capacity of 69.4 MWp in County Offaly. The assets were developed by Highfield Solar, an ib vogt’s joint venture.

ESB and BnM launch solar project in Ireland

The Electricity Supply Board (ESB) and Bord na Móna (BnM) have launched the Timahoe North solar farm in Co Kildare, Ireland. The project has an installed capacity of 108 MWp and has been fully operational since early 2025. The project has been executed with the involvement of contractors and subcontractors like Voltalia, H&MV Engineering, S&G Solar Ltd., and Wills Bros Group.

Ireland’s energy supply remains heavily dependent on imported fossil fuels. In 2023, 82.6% of Ireland’s energy came from fossil fuels. Ireland set a record high of 23.38 TWh in renewable energy use across electricity, transport, and heat for 2023, however its overall renewable energy share (RES-overall) was just 14.6% . Under the EU’s binding Renewable Energy Directive, Ireland has a minimum baseline RES-overall target of 16% every year out to 2030 and needs to achieve a RES-overall result of 43% by 2030.

Ireland’s Energy Transition: Eirgrid launches revised roadmap to 2030

Ireland is focused on achieving its climate and energy goals of becoming carbon neutral by mid-century with an interim target of 51 per cent emissions reduction by 2030 relative to 2018 emissions levels. It plans to achieve these targets through the Climate Action Plan 2023 (CAP2023) published in December 2022 under the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Act 2021 to implement the economy-wide carbon budgets and sectoral emissions ceilings. Northern Ireland, which is part of the UK, also aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

Mitsubishi Power co-develops battery storage projects in Ireland

Mitsubishi Power, a Japanese power company, will collaborate with renewable energy developer ION Renewables to construct four battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in Ireland. Ion Renewables has signed an exclusive agreement with Mitsubishi Power Americas for the four projects, which will use Mitsubishi’s Emerald storage solutions and have a combined capacity of 185.5MW or 371MWh.

Ireland allocates 414 MW of wind and 1,534 MW of solar projects

EirGrid, Ireland’s state-owned electricity grid, has announced the final auction results for 1.9 GW of renewable energy capacity under the Renewable Electricity Support Scheme 2 (RESS 2). The auction resulted in the allocation of 414 MW of onshore wind capacity and 1,534 MW of solar capacity. The winning bids had a weighted average price of $101.80 per MWh.

Ireland invites offshore wind applications under its MAC regime

The Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications, Eamon Ryan TD, announced the commencement of the Maritime Area Consent (MAC) Regime. The new regime enables the Minister, on an interim basis, to issue Maritime Area Consents (MACs) to renewable energy developers who meet the relevant assessment criteria. Developers must have a Maritime Area Consent to make an application for permission, to include environmental assessments, to An Bord Pleanála.

SSE Renewables to apply for a MAC for Irish wind project

SSE Renewables has announced its intention to apply for a Maritime Area Consent (MAC) for its Arklow Bank Wind Park Phase 2 project under Ireland’s new consenting regime. This transfer from the current route of delivery via the Foreshore Act into the MAC regime has been notified to the relevant authorities. The said project, now progressing through the MAC regime, will be delivered later than initially envisaged.

SSE and Siemens Gamesa to explore green hydrogen options in Scotland and Ireland

SSE, a British electricity company, and Siemens Gamesa, a Spanish wind turbine manufacturer have announced that they will look at developing green hydrogen from two onshore wind farms in Scotland and Ireland. The corporations have signed a memorandum of understanding for initiating the project. The two intend to co-locate electrolyzers at one wind farm in Scotland and one in Ireland, the locations of which will be disclosed later.
