At the end of 2020, distributed solar accounted for about 78 GW (30%) of the 253 GW of China’s installed solar generation capacity, according to data from the country’s National Energy Administration. Growth in distributed solar appears to be picking up in proportion to growth in solar farms. In the first half of this year, about 13 GW of new solar power capacity was installed, 7.65 GW of that distributed solar.

Uzbekistan commissions its first utility-scale solar plant of 100 MW

Uzbekistan has commissioned its first utility-scale solar plant of 100 MW. The plant has been developed by UAE’s Masdar. To build the project, Masdar signed an agreement with the government of Uzbekistan and JSC National Electric Grid of Uzbekistan in 2019. A local project company, Nur Navoi Solar FE LLC, was established by Masdar to deliver the solar photovoltaic (PV) plant, and to operate and maintain it over a 25-year period.

Masdar wins 200 MW solar project in Armenia at a tariff of $0.029 per kWh

Masdar, a developer based in the United Arab Emirates, has won a tender to build a 200 MW solar farm in Armenia at a tariff of 0.029 per kWh. The plant will be built in Armenia’s Talin and Dashtadem districts. The solar farm will require a total investment of $174 million. Following Masdar’s initial offer of $0.0299 per kWh in December 2019, the Armenian government placed the project under competitive bidding. Masdar again won the tender by quoting a a reduced tariff of $0.0290 per kWh.
