EDP’s onshore hydro-solar project in Portugal begins operations 

EDP has brought into operation a hybrid renewable energy project in central Portugal that combines onshore solar generation with hydropower. This 89 MW project, called the Pracana complex, is located across the municipalities of Mação and Proença-a-Nova, in the districts of Santarém and Castelo Branco. The project integrates a 48 MW solar plant with the existing 41 MW Pracana hydropower facility on the Ocreza river.

Equinor’s wind-solar hybrid project in Brazil begins operations 

Equinor has commenced commercial operations at its first hybrid project in Brazil, combining 140 MW of solar capacity with 223 MW of wind capacity at the Serra da Babilônia site in Bahia. The solar plant has been developed alongside the existing wind project, Serra da Babilônia Wind, operated by its subsidiary, Rio Energy. The solar plant is expected to produce 236 GWh of renewable energy annually.

Scatec begins operations of 273 MW solar plant in South Africa

Scatec ASA has commenced commercial operations of the 273 MW Grootfontein solar project in South Africa. The project, located in the Western Cape, will supply electricity under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA). It is expected to produce 700 GWh of electricity annually. Construction begins at Brunei’s flagship solar project

Brunei has commenced construction of a 30 MW solar photovoltaic power plant in Kampong Belimbing. The project is being developed by Seri Suria Power (B) Sdn Bhd, a joint venture between Serikandi Oilfield Services Sdn Bhd, Khazanah Satu Sdn Bhd, and Atlantic Blue Sdn Bhd. It will be located on a remediated landfill site covering 32.29 hectares and is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2026.

Zelestra and EDP ink solar plus storage PPA in Spain

Zelestra and EDP have inked a long term power purchase agreement (PPA) in Spain. The agreement combines large-scale solar and battery storage projects and technologies. Under the agreement, Zelestra will build a project consisting of 170 MWdc of solar capacity and 400 MWh of battery storage. The project will be located in Trujillo, Extremadura, Spain. Construction of the project will commence in the second half of 2025.

Zelestra secures $282 million financing package for the Aurora project in Chile

Zelestra, through a $282 million project financing package, has achieved financial close of the Aurora project in Chile. The financing package has been agreed with Natixis CIB and BNP Paribas, with a VAT facility granted by BCI. The project includes approximately 1 GWh of energy storage and a 220 MWdc solar plant. The project will produce approximately 600 GWh of renewable electricity per year.

Tanzania invites bids for construction of 100 MWp solar project

The Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (TANESCO) is inviting tenders from all the eligible contractors for the construction of a 100 MWp solar PV plant, phase II. TANESCO is the Project Executing Agency for this project, which is situated in the Shinyanga Region. The government of the United Republic of Tanzania received financing from Agence Française de Développement for the cost of design, construction, and installation of this 100 MWp solar plant.

Scatec inks PPA for 120 MW solar plant in Tunisia

Scatec has inked a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for a 120 MW solar power plant named Sidi Bouzid II in Tunisia. The PPA has been signed with Tunisian state utility Société Tunisienne de l’Electricité et du Gaz (STEG). Scatec also inked a joint development agreement, with Aeolus SAS which is a part of the Japanese conglomerate Toyota Tsusho Group, for the solar plant. Furthermore, the estimated total capital expenditure for the project is €87 million.

Grenergy finalises deal to sell 300 MW solar plants to Allianz

Grenergy has decided to divest 300 MW of solar capacity from two solar facilities in Spain to Allianz Capital Partners on behalf of Allianz insurance firms and other institutional investors for €270.6 million. Reportedly, the acquisition will be completed by the end of June 2025. The scheduled commercial operation date is planned to be in the second half of 2024. ERG to acquire a 149 MW Spanish solar plant from ib vogt

ERG Spain, a subsidiary of energy company ERG, has agreed to buy Garnacha Solar, a 149 MW solar plant, from ib vogt’s subsidiary IBV Solar Parks. ERG stated that the transaction was valued at around €170 million, with an equity value of €80.5 million. By the third quarter of 2023, the transaction is anticipated to be completed. The 149 MW solar facility is being built in Castilla and León, in northwest Spain, and is currently at an advanced level of development.

ACME and Scatec partner to develop a green ammonia facility in Oman

India-based ACME Solar Private Limited has launched a 50-50 joint venture with Scatec, a company based in Norway to design, construct, build, and operate a large-scale green ammonia production facility in Oman. The facility’s initial phase is projected to produce 100,000 tonnes of green ammonia per year, and it will be expanded to 1.2 million tonnes per year with around 3.5 GW of electrolyser capacity, which will be powered by a solar PV plant with a capacity of 5.5 GWp.

Cubico Sustainable Investment, the fund of Canadian groups PSP and Ontario Teachers, has closed the purchase of KKR’s minority stake in T-Solar in Spanish photovoltaic assets. With this operation, the group closes the acquisition of the company and takes full control in a transaction in which 1.5 billion euros have been disbursed. Cubico reached an agreement with I Squared Capital to take the majority stake on December 15, 2020.

Bank OZK receives approval to construct a solar power plant

Bank OZK has received an approval from the Arkansas Public Service Commission (APSC) and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation to construct a solar power plant. The solar plant will be the third-largest commercial solar facility dedicated to a private sector customer in the State of Arkansas, and it is expected to have generating capacity of 4.8 MWDC.
