Alinta Energy plans a 1 GW offshore wind farm in Australia

Alinta Energy, an Australian green energy company, has announced its plans to build a 1,000 MW wind farm 10 kilometres off the coast of Portland, in southwestern Victoria, to serve the Portland Aluminium Smelter and the east coast electricity system. As per the company’s statement, Portland Bay has an excellent wind resource that would be suitable to power offshore wind turbines.

Siemens Gamesa signs a 455 MW contract with OX2

Siemens Gamesa has signed a 455 MW deal with Swedish developer OX2 to supply its Siemens Gamesa 5.X platform to the Lestijärvi site for what will be Finland’s largest ever wind farm, assisting the country in making a giant leap in its energy transition. The wind project would be using 69 SG 6.6-170 turbines, which will be installed in Central Ostrobothnia in 2024. The wind turbines have a 170-meter rotor and a 6.6 MW generator.

Spain’s latest renewable auction remains undersubscribed

The Spanish Government has announced the results of its 3.3 GW technology-neutral renewable energy auction. The auction, however, was slightly undersubscribed as many companies decided not to compete due to government’s plans to impose a new levy tied to rising gas costs. This would have hampered revenues and these concerns limited participation.

Zara founder enters Spanish wind sector

Amancio Ortega, the founder of the Zara clothing brand, has entered the renewable energy market by acquiring a stake in a wind farm managed by Repsol, the Spanish energy giant. According to the reports, Ortega’s investment holding Pontegadea will pay $281 million for a 49 per cent stake in the Delta wind farm in the northern province of Zaragoza.

Nordex wins order of 14 turbines from Eksim Holding

Nordex, a German turbine manufacturer, has won an order for fourteen N149/4.X turbines from Eksim Holding of Istanbul, Turkey, for the latter’s first wind project in Ukraine. A premium service contract for a duration of 15 years is also included in the order. The Skole wind farm will be erected near the city of Skole in West Ukraine, with a total capacity of 67.2 MW. The turbines are expected to be installed in March 2022

Statkraft acquires 346 MW wind portfolio from Breeze Three Energy

Statkraft, Europe’s largest renewable energy provider, has acquired the German and France wind farm portfolio with the installed capacity of 346 MW from Breeze Three Energy. The transaction value has not been disclosed. Statkraft, based in Norway, has added 39 wind farms in Germany and four wind farms in France to its European onshore wind generation portfolio.

IRENA and GWEC sign Global Offshore Wind Energy Compact

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) have signed the Global Offshore Wind Energy Compact, an agenda that strives to secure sustainable energy for all while also aiding the global fight against climate change. According to the agreement, IRENA and GWEC will collaborate to raise government ambitions to achieve 380 GW of offshore wind installations globally by 2030, and 2,000 GW by 2050.

Goldwind wins two wind power projects in Ukraine

The Xinjiang based Goldwind Technology Co., Ltd. has won two wind power projects in Ukraine, namely the 337.5 MW Zophia wind power project and the 288 MW Ochakov wind power project. With a total installed capacity of 625.5 MW, the former is located in Zaporizhia and the latter in Ochakov, both in southern Ukraine. The two projects entail 75 units of GW 155-4.5 MW and 60 units of GW 155-4.8 MW smart wind turbines.

Vestas wins 396 MW EnVentus order for wind project in Australia

Denmark’s Vestas Wind System A/S has won a 396 MW contract for Rye Park Wind Farm in New South Wales, Australia. The deal was placed by project owner Tilt Renewables. Vestas will supply and install 66 of its V162-6.2 MW wind turbines for the project. Delivery of the wind turbines is expected to occur in the third quarter of 2022, with commissioning to commence in the second quarter of 2023.

AES Andes, a south American power company, has begun the permitting process for a 258 MW wind farm in Bio Bio, Chile. The Rinconada wind farm is planned to have 43 turbines, each with a capacity of 6 MW, as well as the necessary transmission infrastructure.

National Grid to launch a 1.8 GW cable link between the UK and Norway

National Grid, the British transmission system operator, is proposing to launch a 1.8 GW high voltage direct current for offshore wind projects. The new power cable will link Norway and the UK. The “continental link” may connect 3.6 GW of offshore wind projects and deliver electricity for 1.8 million households in the UK.
