ScottishPower to acquire 800 MW solar portfolio in UK

ScottishPower, a subsidiary of Iberdrola, has inked two agreements to purchase 17 solar photovoltaic (PV) projects in Britain, totalling more than 800 MW. ScottishPower has acquired 12 solar PV projects from renewables developer Elgin Energy, with a total capacity of 519 MW and 70 MW of energy storage capacity, and the remaining solar projects from developer Lightsource BP.  The sites will require a $687 million investment to commission.

Oman, bp partner to set up multi-gigawatt renewables and green hydrogen project by 2030

Oman’s Ministry of Energy and Minerals has signed an agreement with British energy company BP to construct a multi-gigawatt renewable energy and green hydrogen project by 2030. According to the reports, bp will collect and analyse solar and wind data from 8,000 km2 of land as part of the agreement. The information will then assist the Omani government in sanctioning future renewable energy hub developments in the most appropriate areas.

EDF and DP Energy partner for up to 1 GW floating offshore wind

EDF Renewables, the renewable energy subsidiary of the French energy company EDF, has formed a joint venture with DP Energy, an international renewable project developer, to produce up to 1 GW of low-carbon green energy in the Celtic Sea. This is expected to contribute significantly to the Crown Estate’s 4 GW capacity plans in the Celtic Sea.

NextEnergy Capital, a London-based solar investor, has announced the sale of NextPower II (Fundfull)’s portfolio of operating solar projects in Italy. The portfolio of the Fund includes 105 solar plants with a total installed capacity of 149 MW. It has plants in Piedmont, Lombardy, Veneto, Tuscany, Puglia, Sardinia, Calabria, Campania, March, Molise, Abruzzo, and Emilia-Romagna, among other places.

Hydrostor to receive $250 million funding from Goldman Sachs

Hydrostor, a long-duration energy storage system provider based in Canada, has received $250 million in capital from the Private Equity and Sustainable Investing Businesses within Goldman Sachs Asset Management. The company is expected to utilize proceeds to develop and construct its 1.1 GW/8.7 GWh of advanced compressed air energy storage projects in Australia and California.

San Miguel Corporation (SMC), a Philippines-based brewing-to-energy conglomerate, has announced that it will begin operating an initial 690 MW of battery storage facility early this year. In 2021-22, the company expects to complete 31 energy storage systems with a total capacity of 1 GW. Also, SMC aims to focus on solar and hydroelectric power plants.

Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM), Mozambique’s state-owned power company, has invited bids from consultancy firms to conduct feasibility studies for the development of a floating solar project in the Chicamba dam in the Manica province of Mozambique. Meyer Burger Technology, based in Switzerland, has announced that it will establish a manufacturing facility in Goodyear, Arizona, to produce high-performance solar modules. The facility’s initial annual production capacity will be 400 MW, allowing it to produce solar modules for residential, commercial, and industrial rooftop systems, as well as solar parks.

Risen Energy Co., a Chinese PV manufacturer, is set to develop a $7 billion integrated solar power factory in Inner Mongolia that will run on renewable energy. wpd to sell 1 GW wind power to Taiwanese company

German wind and solar developer wpd has signed a corporate power purchase agreement (CPPA) with a Taiwanese company for over 1 GW of wind capacity, with over 500 MW expected to come from onshore wind. A direct purchase cooperation agreement has been signed by wpd Dade Energy Group with the said corporate procurer for projects with a capacity of up to 1.2 GW.
