Aypa Power, a US-based energy company, has purchased two standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in Indiana, totaling 268 MW. The BESS projects included in the agreement are Williams Power, a 150 MW project in Jefferson County, and Fletcher Power, a 118 MW project in Decatur County. For an undisclosed sum, the projects were acquired from Blue Steel Power.

Williams Power and Fletcher Power are both in late phases of development, and Aypa has agreed to take over all development required to bring them online. Blue Steel Power is a partnership between Open Road Renewables and Eolian. Once operational, the two BESS facilities are intended to provide the regional grid, which is managed by the Midcontinent Independent System Operator, resilience and capacity (MISO).

They are expected to create economic benefits in the form of construction, operations and maintenance jobs, as well as tax revenues for the local community. Aypa Power currently has more than 15 GW of capacity in development across North America. The firm is a portfolio company of Blackstone, an investment management firm based in New York City.
