BlueFloat Energy, a Spanish renewable energy company, has announced its plans to build Eastern Rise, a 1.7 GW floating offshore wind farm in Australia. The floating wind farm will be built in a proposed offshore wind zone in the Hunter Region, which had been announced by Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen.
Reportedly, Eastern Rise is expected to be completed over a period of seven years and will create several local jobs in its development phase. The floating wind farm promotes BlueFloat Energy’s mission to accelerate the deployment of offshore wind for decarbonisation, regional economic growth, and to support the global transition from coal-fired generation.
In November 2022, BlueFloat Energy, Energy Estate, and Elemental Group announced a ‘multi-billion-dollar’ investment proposal for offshore wind projects in New Zealand. The projects, spread out between South Auckland and West Waikato, would be the consortium’s second investment as part of a national initiative to build up to 5 GW of offshore wind capacity.
