Plus Power commences operations of BESS in Massachusetts

Plus Power has commenced operations of its Cranberry Point Energy Storage facility in Carver, Massachusetts. The standalone utility-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) project has a capacity of 150 MW/300 MWh. It is spread across 6 acres and is connected to Eversource’s Carver 115 kV substation, which links to a major north-south transmission line carrying power to Boston.

Georgia Power secures approval for 1,068 MW solar PPAs

Georgia Power has received approval from the Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) for five new utility-scale solar power purchase agreements (PPAs) under the Clean and Renewable Energy Subscription (CARES) 2023 programme. These projects, with a cumulative capacity of 1,068 MW, will be developed and operated by third-party companies selected through the CARES 2023 Request for Proposal.

Argentina awards 667 MW capacity in BESS tender

The national government has announced the results of the Alma-GBA tender for battery energy storage systems (BESS) projects in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA). A total capacity of 667 MW has been awarded, exceeding the initial target of 500 MW. A total of 15 companies submitted 27 projects amounting to a capacity of 1,347 MW. The awarded project will sign contracts with distributors Edenor and Edesur.

US BOEM halts construction of Revolution Wind offshore project 

The US Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has directed Revolution Wind LLC, a joint venture of Ørsted and Global Infrastructure Partners’ Skyborn Renewables, to stop activities on the outer continental shelf related to the Revolution Wind project. Revolution Wind has begun implementing the order. At present, the project is about 80 per cent complete.

Silicon Ranch to develop solar project for Meta’s data center 

Silicon Ranch has partnered with Central Electric Power Cooperative (CEPC) to develop a 100 MW solar facility in Orangeburg County, South Carolina. The project will support Meta’s data center in the state and contribute to its renewable energy commitments. Both the solar project and Meta’s data center are scheduled to be operational in 2027. Silicon Ranch will be funding, as well executing the project on a build, own, and operate basis.

Nextracker bags order for 1.5 GW solar projects in Brazil

Nextracker has secured an order from Casa dos Ventos to supply 1.5 GW of its NX Horizon-XTR all-terrain and NX Horizon solar tracker systems for a portfolio of four new utility-scale solar and solar-wind hybrid projects in Brazil. The projects include Babilônia Sul (117 MW), Babilônia Centro (226 MW), Seriemas (540 MW), and Rio Brilhante (680 MW). This is reportedly Casa dos Ventos’s first utility-scale solar project.

PGE energises 475 MW BESS projects in Oregon

Portland General Electric (PGE) has completed three utility-scale lithium-ion battery energy storage systems (BESS) projects with a total capacity of 475 MW and over 1.9 GWh of dispatchable energy. The projects, located at key substations in North Portland, Troutdale and Hillsboro, are designed for four-hour operation and can supply electricity to about 300,000 homes during peak demand or supply disruptions.

Pine Gate and Meta ink PPA for solar project in Texas

Pine Gate Renewables and Meta have signed a renewable purchase agreement for a 210 MW solar energy project. The project, named Magnolia Solar, is located near Seguin, Texas. This marks the fourth collaboration between the two companies. US rescinds designated areas for offshore wind development

The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has rescinded all designated wind energy areas (WEAs) on the US Outer Continental Shelf (OCS). This action aligns with Secretary’s Order 3437 and the Presidential Memorandum dated January 20, 2025, which temporarily withdraws all areas on the OCS from offshore wind leasing and calls for a review of the federal government’s leasing and permitting practices for wind projects.

Canada allots its first offshore wind energy zones

The Government of Canada and the Province of Nova Scotia have allotted the first four offshore wind energy areas in Canada. The four areas are French Bank, Middle Bank, and Sable Island Bank off mainland Nova Scotia and Sydney Bight off Cape Breton. This is a key step in developing the offshore wind industry that will provide long-term energy security. The aim is to license 5 GW of offshore wind by 2030.

New York announces RFP for 1 GW energy storage

New York has launched bulk energy storage request for proposals (RFP). The initiative aims to procure 1 GW of bulk energy storage as a part of the state’s 6 GW energy storage roadmap. The solicitation is being administered by New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) via its Bulk Energy Storage Program. The Bulk Energy Storage Program by NYSERDA employs the Index Storage Credit (ISC).

Primergy commissions 408 MWac solar project in Texas

Primergy Solar has commissioned the 408 MWac Ash Creek Solar project in Hill County, Texas. The project is supplying power to the ERCOT grid in partnership with Microsoft through a long-term power purchase agreement. SOLV Energy was the engineering, procurement, and construction partner for the project. The project was originally developed by Orion Power Generation, a joint venture of Orion Renewable Energy Group and Eolian.

Minnesota approves over 475 MW of solar and storage projects

The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission has approved two solar projects with a combined capacity of over 475 MW. The projects are the Iron Pine solar project and the Northern Crescent solar project. The Northern Crescent solar project will consist of a BESS system, which will be housed in a 3.2 acre facility using lithium iron phosphate battery technology. The Iron Pine solar project received a site permit for a 325 MW solar energy facility in Pine County.

Recurrent energises 1,200 MWh storage facility in Arizona

Recurrent Energy has reached commercial operations of the Papago Storage facility. The facility has a capacity of 1,200 MWh and is situated in Maricopa County, Arizona. Furthermore, the project is the first of three Recurrent Energy projects with tolling agreements in place with APS to become operational. Together, the three projects will provide 1,800 MWh of battery storage capacity and 150 MWac of solar generation.

New Jersey launches 2 GW Energy Storage Program

The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) has approved phase 1 of the Garden State Energy Storage Program (GSESP). It is a multi-phase program designed to deploy 2,000 MW of energy storage by 2030. The program aims to expand the amount of grid-scale energy storage capacity in New Jersey. Phase 1 of the program will procure at least 1,000 MW of larger projects directly connected to the main power grid through competitive bidding.

rPlus Energies has secured the close of tax equity financing commitment with RBC Community Investments and a syndicate of investors. The tax equity financing commitment exceeds $500 million and will support the Green River Energy Center, situated in Emery County, Utah. It is a solar-plus-storage project. The Green River Energy Center includes 400 MWac of solar PV and 400 MWac/1,600 MWh of battery storage.

Waaree Solar Americas inks 586 MW module supply agreement

Waaree Solar Americas, a wholly owned US subsidiary of Waaree Energies Limited, has inked a 586 MW solar module supply agreement with a US-based independent power producer. The project is valued at $176 million.
